IL CARNEVALE DI BAGOLINO
Bagolino is a small town of artistic and cultural interest. It is famous for its Carnival that has very ancient, engaging and spectacular origins. For two days, on Monday and Tuesday, the country stops and the streets are animated by groups of "màscher" (masks) and by the company of "balarì" (dancers) accompained by the melodies of the players. The "màscher", which are rappresented whit the faces of old peoples, walk the streets in a rowdy way reserving jokes to anyone they meet. The "balarì" wear a colorful and rich headdress and dance elegantly. In 1970 the ethnologist Italo Sordi wrote: " there is no other ritual music phenomenon in Europe that is so compact and complete". Nowaday Carnival in Bagolino is an event lived by all the population and it is an example of local culture that still joins the past to the present.
